Children from Lighthouse Afterschool Program Make Valentines For Veterans

Valentine’s Day is about giving back to your loved ones, and this Valentine’s Day, the children from the Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans’ Lighthouse Afterschool Program celebrated by giving back to the brave men who have served our country. On Wednesday, February 12, 2014, the children from the Lighthouse Afterschool Program made valentines with visiting veterans to show their love and support for members of the Veterans Services programs at Volunteers of America. The visiting veterans made valentines with the children to bring back to veterans in the program and spoke to the children about what it means to be a veteran.
Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans is committed to serving veterans and their families. The men and women who bravely protected our country often return home with wounds, both physical and mental, which make it difficult to return to civilian life. We aim to ease their transition by helping them find housing and jobs. The Lighthouse Afterschool Program gives children extra attention in curriculum and extra-curricular activities throughout the school year. The program currently operates at Lafayette Academy Charter School, Esperanza Charter School and Alice M. Harte Charter School.
