RSVP Program Commemorates September 11th

On Sept. 11, more than 20 seniors from Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) visited the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell to place more than 1,600 flags on the graves of our fallen heroes. The volunteers –- many are Veterans themselves –- were honored with a 9/11 commemorative lapel pin at the beginning of the event. Afterwards, the volunteers offered silent prayers and grateful thanks, some even saluting their fallen counterparts, as they placed American flags upon each gravesite at the cemetery.

The RSVP volunteers are a select group of individuals ages 55 and older who use their time, skills and life experiences to help meet critical needs across St. Tammany Parish. This is the fourth year that Volunteers of America has hosted this commemorative event, this year under the direction of Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana RSVP Coordinator Gwen Byars. The flags were generously donated by Iberia Bank.
