RSVP Volunteers Commemorate 9-11, Place American Flags on 800+ Gravesites at Veterans Cemetery in Slidell

New Orleans, LA (September 9, 2016) – This morning, more than 20 seniors from Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans' Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) visited the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery to place flags on the graves of our fallen heroes. The volunteers – many are Veterans themselves – were honored with a 9/11 commemorative lapel pin at the beginning of the event. Afterwards, the volunteers offered silent prayers and grateful thanks, some even saluting their fallen counterparts, as they placed American flags upon each gravesite at the cemetery.

The RSVP volunteers are a select group of individuals ages 55 and older who use their time, skills and life experiences to help meet critical needs across St. Tammany Parish. This is the second year that Volunteers of America has hosted this commemorative event under the direction of Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans RSVP Director Dee Wild. The flags were generously donated by Iberia Bank.

Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans currently has three programs to assist Veterans: Transitional Housing for Homeless Veterans, Supportive Services for Veterans, and Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (Job Readiness/Placement for Veterans).
