RSVP Volunteers Donate Summer Reading Books to Local Students

RSVP volunteers from Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans’ Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) donated 138 summer reading books for the second grade students at Lyon Elementary School in Covington. Woodforest National Bank also donated 138 books for the third grade students. The RSVP volunteers distributed the books to the students at Lyon Elementary School in Covington on Wednesday, May 17, just in time for summer vacation. RSVP volunteers are those 55 and older that donate their time and talents to provide critical services across St. Tammany Parish. Lyon Elementary School is one of the volunteer stations where 35 RSVP volunteers serve as mentors in their Students on Adventures in Reading (SOAR) program each week, working with students one-on-one in reading.
