On July 25, the St. Tammany Parish Deputies' Association, in conjunction with St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office Reserve Division, will host a golf tournament to help bring awareness to the increasing number of suicides that occur in St. Tammany Parish each year.

The tournament will be held at Oak Harbor in Slidell.

In 2014, there were 46 suicides in St. Tammany Parish, an increase from 32 in 2013. Since 2002, there have been more than 435 suicides - all preventable deaths that adversely impacted thousands of people.

The purpose of this event is to help provide awareness of the many programs available for the prevention of suicide.  Some of those programs include the Volunteers of America and the St. Tammany Outreach for the Prevention of Suicide (S.T.O.P.S.).  These programs offer services not only to educate the public about the prevention of suicide, but also offer counseling to survivors of attempted suicide as well as to the families of those who have committed suicide.

The event will be a four-player scramble with a 7 a.m. registration and 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

The cost is $125 per player, and the registration fee includes a polo-style golf shirt, green fees, cart and range balls, refreshments during play, and lunch.

For additional information or register, contact Trinity Graves (985) 726-7819 or
trinitygraves@stpso.com or Oak Harbor Golf Course at (985) 646-0110.

Sponsorships are also needed. Any contributions a business or organization could provide to help make this tournament possible will be greatly appreciated.
