New Orleans, LA (July 16, 2014) – Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans is pleased to announce that the United States Department of Labor has awarded $74 million in grants to 37 community service organizations to provide employment, training and support services to successfully re-integrate formerly incarcerated adults and youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans will utilize this grant to implement the Positive Pathways Program (P3) in Greater New Orleans. The program will address employment barriers of court-involved youth, helping them to develop the skills needed to obtain and maintain employment using the strategies of the Positive Pathways Program model.
“Using proven and promising strategies, Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans and partners of the Positive Pathways Program will provide a range of services to justice-involved youth including case management, mentoring, education and training, which will lead to industry-recognized credentials,” says Voris Vigee, Executive Vice President of Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans.
The Positive Pathways Program in Greater New Orleans is expected to serve 188 youth ranging in age from 14 to 24 years old, living in high poverty, high crime communities designated as “Promise Zones” by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. This initiative will help participants move forward into the future by combining the most promising workforce and juvenile justice strategies available.
