Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), also referred to as caregivers, personal assistants and direct care or homecare aides, provide daily support services for the many Americans living with disabilities. By providing appropriate support, DSPs help people with disabilities live in their own homes, pay their bills and enjoy recreational activities.  On Thursday, September 11, Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans celebrated Direct Support Professionals Week by hosting a breakfast to recognize the dedicated Volunteers of America staff that impact the lives of individuals with developmental and other diabilities.  The 2014 Direct Support Professional (DSP) of the Year for Louisiana, Janae Baptiste, and other devoted DSPs were recognized at the event.

The Supported Living Services program at Volunteers of America serves children and adults with a variety of disabilities, including intellectual and developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and spina bifida. Services are designed to meet each person's unique needs through individualized support planning.
