New Orleans, LA (October 28, 2014) – Renaissance Neighborhood Development, a subsidiary of Volunteers of America, is delighted to accept the 2014 J. Timothy Anderson Award (Timmy’s) for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation in the category of “Best Historic Rehab Utilizing New Market Tax Credits” for its work in the Lykes Steamship District.

“Through the combined efforts and perseverance of our many partners, we were able to convert a long abandoned office building into 52 new units of workforce housing and a derelict and forgotten Cotton Press into a commercial kitchen housing Volunteers of America’s Fresh Food Factor,” said Vanessa Levine, Development Manger of Renaissance Neighborhood Development. “It is an honor for me to accept this award on behalf of everyone who worked so hard to reinvigorate and reactive this historic neighborhood.”

In addition to this award, the Lykes Steamship District was named a finalist for four judges awards: best Mill or Factory Rehabilitation, Most Innovative Adaptive Reuse, Achievement in Sustainability and Most Advanced Financial Structure.

The Timmy Awards honor outstanding real estate projects that involve the rehabilitation of older, historic buildings primarily using Federal or State Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits.  Nominated projects are judged for overall design and quality, interpretation and respect of historic elements, innovative approach to construction and use of building materials, community impact, sustainability and financial and market success.

The awards are selected annually by a multidisciplinary panel of judges that includes developed, transactional consultants as well as an architect and preservation advocate.  This year, judges selected winners and finalists from a total of 40 applicants hailing from 23 states and the District of Columbia, the widest geographic representation in the history of the Timmy awards.  An awards presentation and luncheon was held on October 8, 2014 in Boston to honor this year’s winners and finalists.  For a complete list of the 2014 Timmy Awards recipients, please click here.
