New Orleans (May 1, 2014) – One local New Orleans organization is cooking its way to a healthier New Orleans one school lunch at a time. Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans’ Fresh Food Factor program offers schools and summer camps a local, healthy and affordable food service solution.

Fresh Food Factor not only provides meals that exceed USDA requirements, but also teaches participants that a healthy lifestyle begins with good eating habits.  Since launching last summer Fresh Food Factor has served healthy breakfasts and lunches to over 1,000 children in the Greater New Orleans area.

“The success we’ve had in the local community shows that there is a need for fresh, healthy and affordable food service for children,” said Lawrence Dodds, Director of Fresh Food Factor. “We’ve had an overwhelming demand for our service and food; in fact, we’ve just purchased our third delivery truck to accommodate the delivery schedule.”

Fresh Food Factor will be serving summer programs such as Brighton Up Summer Camp, New Orleans Ballet Association’s Adventures in Dance, Housing Authority of New Orleans The Estates, Housing Authority of New Orleans River Garden, Love Impact, Young Audiences’ three locations, Winn’s Discovery Center, Volunteers of America’s Lighthouse program and Youth Empowerment Project.

“For our nation to be healthy we have to start right here in our own community. The Fresh Food Factor program is an investment in our children and our future,” says President/CEO Jim LeBlanc.
Interested schools and summer camps can learn more about how to apply for Fresh Food Factor’s healthy and fresh food service by visiting www.freshfoodfactor.org, email info@freshfoodfactor.org or call 504-522-3063.
