For years, Lou suffered from uncontrollable fits of verbal rage, leaving him ashamed and frustrated and his wife, Betty, hurt, helpless and alone. It took a call to our Crisis Response Program for him to finally discover ways to control his rage.

​In celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 15-21), Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana's senior RSVP Volunteers gathered for an annual recognition luncheon celebrating more than 38,000 hours of community service in 2017. The RSVP luncheon was held at the Fleur de Lis Event Center in Mandeville, Louisiana, on Saturday, April 7, 2018.

Emelda works Monday through Friday at the Single Room Occupancy facility of Volunteers of America. She maintains the facilities—making sure that everything from the kitchen to bathrooms, and common areas are clean and orderly. Emelda also lives at the facility; she became a resident in April of this year and the transition was, “the best thing” that could have happened to her, she said.

The sacrifice, the struggle, the strength are a few words of the many that describes this war veteran, Mr. LucShweitzer Hill. As Mr. Hill began to START his process his strength prevailed and as strength within prevailed doors began to open for him.

Christopher has deep blue eyes, honesty, humility, and tenacity for animal care that drives him to pursue a career as a Veterinary Technician. He also lives with Asperger's syndrome.

Vickie Russo, her mother Maxine Vioron and her son Stevie took pride in their New Orleans home, where Russo and her brothers grew up.
