Meet our 2023 GolfStar Family -- Conner, baby Aaron, and Madison
Teenage sweethearts who met at church, Conner and Madison always knew that children were going to be a part of their family eventually. The couple got married after Conner graduated from college and moved to New Orleans in 2017. This is when they were ready to start a family. They tried for several years but were not able to conceive biologically. They were so disillusioned, the only hope they were given was the prospect of in vitro fertilization treatments, which is unbelievably expensive for a young couple just starting out. Plus, there is no guarantee the result would be a baby. They couple prayed about what the Lord would have them do, and it became clear to both that early on God knew that adoption was going to be one way they could have a family. Unsure of where to turn or what to do to even be considered as an adoptive family. Madison decided to make a call to the crisis pregnancy center. She asked them where they direct expectant mothers who were considering adoption and Volunteers of America was one of the organizations they refer women because of the great care, including life-long counseling services, Volunteers of America gives to the people they help.
They contacted Lori, the manager of Volunteers of America’s adoption and maternity program in January 2020. It could not have gone better. She put them at ease and shared what they needed to know to become adoptive parents. There was never a consideration to contact any other agency. It all seemed that it was going according to plan. Then COVID hit our area in March 2020 and the process was at a standstill. Thankfully, Lori was able to modify some things to be virtual and they were officially approved in September 2020.
On April 12, 2021, a baby boy, who had some health complications was born. Lori reached out to Conner and Madison to see if they would like to be considered, and of course they said yes. Over the course of the next two weeks, they met the birth mom, a moment they will always cherish, and she chose them to be the baby’s parents. Conner and Madison spent nearly every waking hour with him in the hospital. He was a fighter and really strong, and thankfully, God brought him to good health after 5 weeks in the hospital.
On May 16, they brought home their son, Aaron James Edward Hinton. Away from all of the stress of the hospital, they held in their arms the most precious gift that God has ever given them. Aaron is now a very energetic 2 year old who is their whole world!
