    Voris Roberts Vigee Named President and CEO of Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana

    Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana announces the selection of Voris Roberts Vigee as the new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2021. Vigee is currently Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana’s Executive Vice President of Programs. She is an accomplished leader and has been with the organization for over 25 years. Vigee has three decades of nonprofit experience and has been integral in developing, designing, implementing and managing innovative programs while at the organization.

    PUBLIC NOTICE: Fresh Food Factor Seeking Competitive Bids

    Volunteers of America Fresh Food Factor announces that the agency is seeking formal competitive bids from broad line vendors for food ingredients that will enable Fresh Food Factor to serve breakfast, lunch, snack and supper meals to schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program, Summer Food Service Program and the Child and Adult Care Food Program using United States Department of Agriculture funding.

    Volunteers of America’s RSVP Volunteers Collect Over 10,000 lbs. Of Food

    Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) hosted a special food drive in honor of the National Day of Service in remembrance of 9/11 on September 11, 2020. The volunteers collected 10,784 pounds of much-needed food. This was the first food drive facilitated by RSVP.

    News Release: Summer Food Service Program Open Sites

    Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana Inc. is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all eligible children without charge. Acceptance and participating requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided at the sites and times as follows:

    Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana Expands Veterans Services

    The Veterans Administration has provided much-needed additional funding to assist veterans during the COVID-19 pandemic. Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana was recently awarded a three-month, $1.1 million grant for its Supportive Services for Veterans Families program to provide support to qualified veterans who are in need of temporary financial assistance to pay their rent and utility payments because of COVID-19 and currently living anywhere in Louisiana.

    Volunteers of America Honors RSVP Senior Volunteers Who Have Served in the Military

    Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana hosted a special Veterans Corps Pinning Ceremony and breakfast on Veterans Day to honor senior citizens who are military veterans in its Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.

    Monday, September 23, 2019, was a special day in Baton Rouge as our Director of Supported Living Services Heather Matthews had the chance to meet Governor John Bel Edwards. The Governor spoke about the importance of organizations like Volunteers of America that enable individuals with disabilities to thrive in our community. We are grateful to him for his support of our consumers and the staff who serve them every day!     Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana Receives $2.5 million SAMHSA Grant

    Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana was recently awarded a five-year, $2.5 million grant from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This grant, which beings on September 30, 2019, focuses on helping people living with, or at a high risk of, contracting HIV.

    More than 50 RSVP volunteers placed more than 2,000 flags on the graves of veterans at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell to commemorate Sept. 11.
