    Spreading Christmas Cheer to Local Seniors at Terraces on Tulane

    Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans hosted a Christmas party for the elderly residents at its senior housing facility Terraces on Tulane on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Volunteers from UnitedHealthcare, an agency partner, shared in merriment and distributed gifts to residents. The event was part of Volunteers of America’s Christmas Wish program, whereby the organization collects and distributes gifts to consumers in need who may not have otherwise received a Christmas gift this holiday season.

    Annual Carousel Party Celebrates Families Brought Together Through Adoption Program

    ​In celebration of National Adoption Month, Volunteers of America of Greater New Orleans hosted its joyous annual Carousel Party on Saturday, November 12. Dozens of families brought together through Volunteers of America's Adoption Program enjoyed carousel and train rides in the New Orleans City Park Carousel Gardens in celebration of their unique families.

    Volunteers of America Honors RSVP Senior Volunteers Who Have Served in the Military

    ​Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans hosted a special Veterans Corps Pinning Ceremony and Breakfast in Mandeville, LA, on November 8, 2016, to honor senior citizens in its Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) who are military Veterans. This year, 15 new members were added to its Veterans Corps, bringing the total number of members to 49.

    Volunteers of America Breaks Ground on New Northshore Housing Development

    ​Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans broke ground on its newest housing development, The Cottages at Mile Branch. Located at 424 Purslane Drive in Covington, the development will offer 25 two, three and four-bedroom single-family homes on individual lots. Thirteen of the homes will be set aside for veterans and their families; four of those will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and be able to accommodate the needs of physically injured veterans.

    Crisis Response Program Aided by St. Tammany Parish Deputy Sheriff's Association

    Sgt. Trinity Graves, on behalf of the St. Tammany Deputy Sheriff's Association, presented Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans with a donation of $1,500, which will help the organization provide lifesaving crisis response services across the Parish. Participating in the presentation were (left to right) Major Wharton Muller, Deputy Chief Tiffany Carrasco, Sheriff Randy Smith, Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans North Shore Services Director Ty Bartel, Sergeant Trinity Graves, Lt. Sammy O'Keefe and Deputy Chief Danny Culpepper.

    RSVP Volunteers Commemorate 9-11, Place American Flags on 800+ Gravesites at Veterans Cemetery in Slidell

    More than 20 seniors from Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans’ Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) visited the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery to place flags on the graves of our fallen heroes. The volunteers – many are Veterans themselves – were honored with a 9/11 commemorative lapel pin at the beginning of the event. Afterwards, the volunteers offered silent prayers and grateful thanks, some even saluting their fallen counterparts, as they placed American flags upon each gravesite at the cemetery.

    The Home Depot Foundation Announces $150,000 Grant to Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans to Provide Quality Veterans Housing in Covington, La.

    The Home Depot® Foundation announced a $150,000 grant to Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans to address the critical housing needs of U.S. military veterans. This grant is part of more than $1.75 million in funding announced for nine Volunteers of America veterans housing programs in eight states. This funding will help improve or build 219 units of housing for veterans, including up to 64 earmarked specifically for women veterans, and is part of a larger Volunteers of America initiative which will impact 883 units of housing.
