    Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans Awarded a $1.5 Million Grant from U.S. Dept. of Labor

    New Orleans, LA (July 16, 2014) – Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans is pleased to announce that the United States Department of Labor has awarded $74 million in grants to 37 community service organizations to provide employment, training and support services to successfully re-integrate formerly incarcerated adults and youth involved in the juvenile justice system.

    Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans’ Lighthouse Summer Program Heads Out to the Farm

    On Tuesday, June 10, children from the Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans’ Lighthouse Summer Program at Alice Harte visited Stoney Point Farm to harvest fresh fruits and vegetables and used them to make a delicious and healthy snack. The partnership between Volunteers of America and Stoney Point Farm supports the “Farm to School” initiative to provide local, organically grown local produce for schools and summer camps that participate in the Volunteers of America Fresh Food Factor food service program.

    May Marks Mental Health Awareness Month

    New Orleans (May 20, 2014) – According to 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, more than 60 percent of adults with a mental illness went untreated. Here in New Orleans in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Volunteers of America is working to ensure that no one goes without mental health services available through its Mental Health Services and Creative Counseling Services programs.
