    UNO Women’s Basketball Teams Up with Volunteers of America to Mentor Children of Incarcerated Parents

    Players from the University of New Orleans women’s basketball team were matched with children in Volunteers of America’s Mentoring Children of Promise program on Monday, December 29th during a Mentor Meet and Greet event at Lakefront Arena. Mentoring Children of Promise matches caring adult mentors with children who have a parent in prison in order to provide them with extra attention, encouragement, guidance and hope.

    Healthy lunches for hundreds of underserved school kids were prepared by UnitedHealthcare employees today at Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans’ Fresh Food Factor. Fresh Food Factor, a program of Volunteers of America, is a community effort that provides New Orleans public school students healthy, nutritious food.

    Volunteers of America Breaks Ground in Terrebonne Parish

    The Bayou Cane Apartments located on Synergy Center Boulevard in Houma will add 82 newly-constructed apartment homes to the community next summer. The 4-acre landscaped site will feature five, two- and three-story garden-style apartment buildings, a playground, community center, dog park, on-site parking and a nature trail.

    Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), also referred to as caregivers, personal assistants and direct care or homecare aides, provide daily support services for the many Americans living with disabilities. By providing appropriate support, DSPs help people with disabilities live in their own homes, pay their bills and enjoy recreational activities.

    Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans’ Senior Volunteers Honor Our Firefighters and Police Officers

    Beginning in 2002, family members who lost loved ones in the September 11th attacks began to seek a forward-looking tribute to honor those lost and pay tribute to those who rose up in service. This year the members of the St. Tammany Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), sponsored by Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans, honored firefighters and law enforcement officers in our community.
